Trend report: four things we're wearing this fall and winter

Flats for evening, the puffer everywhere, pearls with a T-shirt and the suede sneaker: four easy ideas and the pieces that get you there.

1 min read

Four ideas from this season that are easy to wear and worth investing in, each one with the pieces in the store that get you there.

1. The flat is the new heel

Ballerinas, Mary-Janes and loafers have taken over from heels for evenings out. Valentino's Rockstud Bow ballerinas and Maison Margiela's Tabi Mary-Janes are dressy enough for a party, and Miu Miu's bleached leather loafers finish denim on the weekend.

2. Quilted and puffed

The puffer has left the slopes. Moncler's Maya 70 and Moka coats work over tailoring as well as over a hoodie, and the high-shine Tibb gilet is the layer men keep reaching for.

3. Pearls, everywhere

Pearls are back as a casual accent rather than a formal one. Vivienne Westwood's orb-plaque pearl bracelet and three-row necklace look right with a plain T-shirt and a pair of jeans.

4. The suede sneaker

Suede has replaced smooth leather on the sneakers people want this season: the Miu Miu x New Balance 530 SL, Common Projects in white suede and Golden Goose's Ball Star.

Wear the trends without overdoing it

  • Pick one idea per outfit: pearls with flats is plenty.
  • Keep the base neutral, in black, navy, camel or cream, and let the trend piece stand out.
  • Buy the version you will wear twice a week, not the one you will wear twice a year.
